A partner in a 200 cow dairy near Waverly, MN. With over 30 years of calf raising experience, I have used all the different methods, starting with group pens in stanchion barn with pails, then calf huts with pails followed by bottles.
A little over 3 years ago, I started looking for another way to raise calves.
Dean, my husband, and I wanted to get out of the weather and use group housing to eliminate the time consuming chores of feeding and bedding individual pens thus reducing hired labor costs. We were reluctant to spend the $15,000.00 on a name brand auto feeder. While researching the remodeling of our tie stall barn into the group housing calf barn, I was introduced to the ID-TEK Auto Calf Feeder. It was priced affordably! Just $2745.00.
We ordered our first ID-TEK and have not looked back since. We immediately experienced better health in our calves; the scours we battled in the huts were gone. The newborn calves adapted to the feeder quickly after bottle feeding for less than a week. They consumed starter immediately when and drank water from the automatic waterer in the pen! No more frozen pails to thaw out! We soon ordered a second ID-TEK, and I began sharing our experiences with everyone that came near me.
This has led me to selling these awesome auto feeders to other farmers and dealers. The ID-TEK Auto Calf feeders have given me the freedom to leave the farm with out concern over who would take my place feeding calves. I have no problem leaving any one of our employees in charge of cleaning and filling the machine. Dean can stop by the barn as his schedule allows to check on the calves both by reviewing the computer located on the machine and observing the calves in the pen. In fact, he loves to end his day by stopping in the calf barn to watch the baby calves playing.
